Default Sony Vaio screen problem - Unsure on part name

My Sony Vaio will work fine for a while and then the screen cuts out.

It still works if I plug it into the TV though via a lead (TV works only)

So I'm guessing there is a replacement lead or something I can buy, I'd like to try and do it myself to keep funds down rather that take it to a computer shop who can never give you a straight up that'll cost you £... sir.

Thanks

when you say screen does the brightness go ?

next time it does go into a dark room and shine a torch on it from an angle can you see the windows opp sys very very faintly under neath ??

If so 2 things Inverters shafted, or backlight, Inv are about 20 quid backlight a fortune, Best thing is to send it to a repair cnntre online i used laptop repair or something

only cost me 60 quid

Invertors make the light work on the screen very high voltage so be careful, but if lighst gone it wont work anyway.
