Any particular reason why?
You'll have to forgive me as I've no idea about the ins and outs of the various OS etc.

Apple have a Marketplace for apps. Android will use any old cesspit, full of malicious apps.

Touche' Sir!!

But the slogan...

"If you haven't got an Iphone, then they're aren't naked pictures of you on the web"

Hasn't quite caught on!

P.s. You're lying about the rubber chicken though, right?

Please don't make me trot out a load of security links, try google. Saying that, even http://www.google.com/security has a broken Android.

No doubt those pictures you mention will be used to lure people at some point.

If we are talking about Android then I have Lookout installed, but have never had any malicious apps on my phone. It's just there as a precaution. Like Jack says, Google don't vet the apps before they go on the Android Market so you could download something dodgy. Google are quick to pick up on any though and have the ability to automatically delete said apps from your phone. Look at what permissions you are allowing the app to have when installing and also check the reviews of the app. If you're really paranoid you could only install apps from the Amazon app store as they do vet them first.

Yeah you're right, I've never tried to use it so didn't realise it was US only at the moment.

Had my Desire for 18m and never had an anti-virus installed and i've tried hundreds upon hundreds of apps. I also have "Unknown Sources" ticked for apps that don't come from the market place. Never had any problems. Ignore the scaremongering.

Saint AAI's post above is the most sensible and genuine. Ignore the rest.
