Rom manager is a good app once you get going, nice and easy to restore to a working image etc if it all goes **** up

will mainly allow you to run unsigned beta roms. you can have roms based on Andriod 2.3 (honeycomb). make your phone highly configurageble. allows you to overclock the processor for faster operation. allows for more control over where programs are installed and how they run. easy backup and re-install if you ***** stuff up. that's only a fraction of what you can do with a rooted phone.

I've done it Ant, got most of the Sense 3 stuff on, but I've removed Rosie 3D as I didn't like it.

Info on Rooting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837519

Radio S-OFF or ENG S-OFF (mine is ENG S-OFF, but it depends what you want to be able to do with the phone, Radio S-OFF may be all you need):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403

You will want ROM Manager from the market and also flash the latest ClockWorkMod recovery from within RomManager.

Then choose a good custom ROM. I'm using LeeDroid and find it very good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1056727

Always do a backup before flashing so you can restore the phone if it goes wrong. I've never had mine fail though and I've flashed it loads. Also you will need to do a full wipe before flashing. There is a nice .zip file in the LeeDroid thread for doing this. Boot the phone up and wait for everything to load, then reboot again. Then proceed with flashing the extras.

The ROM should have the latest kernel installed, but if not grab that from the LeeDroid thread and flash that.

Then flash the sense 3.0 all in one zip from the same thread. Choose to have the new Rosie or not from the two files. V5 is the new one and v4 is with old Rosie.

Then you can apply the other patches such as fly in animations and new lock rings etc...

You can get SetCPU from the XDA forums for free if your registered. You will want that for overclocking. Mine will run at 1.5GHz and be stable, but I've got it running at 1.4 as it seemed to get me the best results during bench marking. It crashes sometimes at 1.8Ghz and seems to run slower so is not stable for me at high speeds.

Sense 3 lockscreen you can change to weather or friendstream, photo album etc... and you have access to the dialer, email, camera and messages from there too. You can change them to give shortcuts to any app on your phone from the lockscreen.

Example, note the Autobot lock ring just for extra geekyness lol.

If you get stuck with any of it give me a shout. Everything you need for the Desire HD can be found on XDA here.

As I understand it Radio S-OFF is what you need to flash ROMs etc.. Eng S-OFF does something to your HBOOT and allows you to use fastboot commands. HBOOT is kinda like your bios on a PC. If it goes wrong when flashing it won't boot. Not fully sure what it all means, but I think you need fastboot to flash new radio's so will need Eng S-OFF if you want to mess with them. Mine wen't through all the steps really easily, but depending on what official ROM is on the phone, you may need to downgrade first. I'm not too sure on that though, just what I've been reading on it.

Edit: Downgrading stuff if needed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003

http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-a...g-problem.html

Hopefully you won't need to downgrade so try the Visionary program to get temproot first. If that works then permroot should be fine. The Visionary app will tell you anyway.
