Recommendations for direct attached storage?

Recommendations for direct attached storage?
I'm after a 4 or 5 bay raid 5 box that has firewire 800 (for imac).
i've been looking at Promise, Drobo and G-Technology so far and i'm finding
G-Tech is the best, but expensive for home use
Promise Datastor is pretty good
Drobo are getting poor reviews these days
Any of you have experience with these makes or have other recommendations?
I'm not after NAS or purely raid 0 or 1.
