Unhappy Vista Internet Security 2011

Has taken over my laptop .... seems the only way out of it blocking everything is to buy it!!

Is there an easy way to get rid of the damned thing ... it is bloody aggressive - is it a Microsoft program as it says it is?

It's not by Microsoft. Their product is called security essentials and it's free. Sounds like you have an infected system. Do you not have any antivirus/anti-spyware/malware programs installed?

Cheers for that ... it's a nasty piece of virus - I'm amazed how I picked it up, to be honest. I was on my laptop which never sees any dodgy sites!!

And AVG runs on it.

Interestingly, the virus blocked out the AVG and opened my firewall - not allowing me to close it.

In the end I restored the system to an earlier date and it has gone - is this enough for me to do?

Thanks

That'll be part of your problem then. AVG misses so much stuff. I recommend changing to something that works as soon as possible. The free Microsoft security essentials is much better (and less resource hungry).

you got it because you went to a legitimate site that "rents" space to adservers - to target ads to you

it was these ad servers that were compromised with the virus/malaware not the actual site

you want to block all access to these crappy ad servers

it is a bit technical but a very easy way is explained here

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

i use the same method, and boy when I use scoobynet on a PC which does not have it installed I can't beleive the crap you put up with (i get zero ads on this forum)

if you need talking through it I am more than happy too

details here

http://www.securitynet.org/google-an...-with-malware/

and as the article states "if Microsoft and Google get their Ad servers infected", what chance you?
