Urgent help requested
The works PC has started playing funny buggers.
I first noticed this morning it didn't want to open Favorites on IE and i've since found out, it will open the initial desktop folder, it won't open anything inside them.
This includes any work we have stored, like spreadsheets or invoices through Microsoft Works.
I've done a system restore and nothing much else as i'm at a loss what to do.
It's on Vista.

Managing to right click-open, but double left click went mad.
Tried opening Spybot and couldn't run a scan, so i downloaded Ad-Aware, restarted the system, started to run the Ad-Aware scan and noticed everything was back to normal...
Dunno what has changed, but hopefully it stays this way......

Agreed. Back up those spreadsheets, word files, invoices, accounts, customer database onto an external USB drive. Cheap as chips now and you can set up the computer for auto backup at night. Even an 8 or 16GB USB pen drive would do.

It could be that you have a virus which is replacing explorer.exe and thus messing things up when you try to view (certain) folders.
The virus cold also be on a USB flash drive or similar, so you could be re-infecting your machine (and infecting other flash drives as well).
You need to run some good anti-virus software as well as Spybot (with the latest definitions), Malwarebytes etc. to be sure that you are clean (and also scan any removeable media as well).

Ran AVG and it picked up a Trojan.
Restarted PC and it's still the same for a while....then on it's own it's gone back to no problems....?
The PC is roughly 9-10 years old and hasn't been in the best of environments. Could it cause issues like this itself?

Hmm.
A 9 to 10 year old PC - I would guess it's quite important to running the business? Dell will sell you a new base unit starting from £200+VAT.
Have a look at an online backup service like Mozy or Trend SafeSync - copies your important stuff to an Internet based service.
Backing up to a USB stick or drive is okay but the day you need your backup will be the one after you were in a hurry leaving the office and didn't bother to backup...

Lol I know Chris. This year will see us build a new premises and will replace the desktop then, but for now it isn't worth replacing, as it'll be put in an area not very clean....you'd understand if you seen it.
Anyways, the problem is solved and I'm embarrassed to admit it. The secretary came in this morning and when we told her of the problems, she commented on the keyboard and how she'd had trouble with keys sticking. Sure enough, a quick look showed the left arrow key sticking down enough to cause these hassles!!!
Pi55ed off to say the least, but at least it's fixed. Getting a cheap keyboard now to tide us over till I wangle a Mac out the company.

i use LIVEDRIVE unsure of others but 90 quid a year its been a godsend.
It obviously backs up your PC but also Installs whats called briefcase, if your partner also installs it you can both share that online briefcase a bit like a cloud based Network drive.
I share all my crap in my house with 7 other pCs n Lappies, you can also get into it VIA the web.
