Just had Telewest Broadband put in today.
I paid nothing, if you register before 30th April, they are installing free of charge and also giving away the NIC card if you need one.
It is £25 per month if you have other Telewest items (digital tv, phone line etc) or £33 per month if you don't have any of there other services.
It is much faster.

My understanding was they are going to bring out 2 new versions of their current broadband setup to compliment the existing 512Kb up/128Kb down setup... one at 256Kb/64Kb, the other at 1Mb/256Kb however this wasn't going to be a free upgrade... The engineer I spoke to a copule of days ago seemed to think that they were just waiting for sort out a different make of cable modem as their *** is currently owned by Motorola which isn't where they want to be I believe...
cheers

SiDHEaD,
That rumor was started when one of the high up dudes did a speech and a few people took it the wrong way, it isnt true. However, NTL are now offering 1mb for a competitive rate..

I had an e-mail today from the dept that deals with remote/home working. Because I use it alot, it's more economical for them to pay for installation and subscription of ADSL
Alas, BT have not enabled our exchange
Talk about being clemmed!

Telewest are currently reviewing around 5 types of cable modems, in the field with employees. There are three different suplliers involved. We don't want to put all our eggs in one basket
There are 512 kB / sec (standard) 1024 kB / sec (platinum) and even 2048 (no name yet) being tested in Scotland. The 1024 kB / sec service is being tested all over the country. No idea of pricing yet however. 128 kB / sec and 64 kB / sec has been considered but is going no-where at the moment.
1024 kB / sec can be seen working in the Portcullis Hotel in Chipping Sodbury, and it's bloody fast
Cheers Phill C
