Can you downgrade ios 4 to 3.1.3?
I keep reading info saying it's possible but I thought it was made clear that once you upgrade to 4.* it isn't possible to change back to 3.* ?
My son has my old 3g and when I see him using it with ios 4 on it it looks unbearably slow to me and think he would be better off back on 3.1.3.

Bare this is mind.
"At this point, you've got a fresh 3.1.3 installation, but you probably want to sync your apps and data back to your phone as they were before you downgraded. If you're lucky, you've got a backup saved from before you upgraded to 4.0 (you can select different backups from the drop-down menu). If you don't have a pre-4.0 backup, you're unfortunately out of luck—iTunes won't let you restore data from a 4.0 backup to your downgraded 3.1.3."

Cheers, don't think there is a pre 4 backup so he wont like that much as he will have to start all his games from scratch.
Looks like the same as the link I was reading saying about needing recboot:

One of the problems is if the baseband is updated. As far as I'm aware, you cannot downgrade the baseband to a lower version. Thus you may be able to circumvent Apple's methods to prevent the lower OS version being installed, but it probably won't downgrade the baseband and it's possible there could be problems with an older OS talking to a newer baseband.
It would be very handy for developers if you could take a phone down from 4.x to 3.x. We have had a couple of test phones "accidentally" upgraded, people simply didn't know it was a big problem, and were a little miffed when I was a tad annoyed to find my 3.1.3 devices were now 4.2.1 devices.
