Care of another SN member I managed to get my mother's iPad jail broken. Now has Cydia and xbmc installed. Streams avi files very well. X264 seems to have some probs with but hey I am just please I got this far.

So, what sort of things can I now do? Run unsigned open source software. Does that about sum it up or am missing summat

Jailbreak is alot more useful on the iPhone for things like FaceTime over 3G.

Did you install that other app I gave you?

Installous is a good app....just remember to turn on the "remove metadata" option or the appstore will forever be telling you there are updates lol..you need to add the hackulous repository tho...

you can change the look of the iPad, change the font, add themes change what the battery charging icon looks like to name a few.......

its a great thing...

Piracy will be the big draw, you can steal pretty much any app. Personally I'd like MiWi but am not prepared to compromise my iPhone/iPad to save me a few clicks or quid.

MiWi is ok, but the last time I tried it, it was a tad hungry on the battery front. I'm waiting to see how much we'll be charged for the personal wifi hotspot that 4.3 will provide. Hopefully the plan level I'm on will mean no additional cost, but if the carrier can gouge more money out of you, they probably will.
