Regedit - 'enableplaintextpassword' in NT?
#1
here goes...
i am trying to access a linux server over a network with NT, just using network neighbourhood. by accessing it i mean actually logging in. however, NT encrypts it's passwords so the linux server will not accept my user/password.
i know and have used 98/2000 etc to log into the same server by accessing regedit and setting the 'enableplaintextpassword' to 1 (True).
However, NT does not have this setting in the registry, or atleast i cannot find it. it has exactly the same directories as 98/etc that the variable is kept in, something like \local machine\blah\blah\blah\parameters...but this folder has nothing in it on my NT machine.
any help would be much appreciated. please keep any advice fairly simple as i am bit 'fick
cheers.

Run regedt32.exe and locate the hive key entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Rdr\Parameters\
Add the following value:
EnablePlainTextPassword:REG_DWORD=1
Or you can configure samba to use encrypted passwords and use the smbpasswd utility to create a password file on the Samba box:
