Default vista onto xp/2000 network

I have a vista laptop connected to a small office network, running peer to peer connections through a hub.

I cant get the vista network to connect to a windows 2000 pc - it sees all the workgroup pcs, sees the 2000pc, and asks for a user name and password to connect to 2000pc - vista then just says the password is wrong, but the same user/pass works from a XP PC.

I found a regedit trick on ms kbase kb239869 - has anyone done this and can show a screen shot of the settings as the registry set up is a bit confusing.

oh, file sharing is on, network discover is on, firewall off.

Any thing else I am missing? It seems pretty rubbish that i need to regedit a new O/S to get it to connect to anything really.

have a quick search on google for M$ vista xp network problem. I had the same fault and you need to download a file from M$ to the xp computer to enable both versions to see each other correctly

Are you using default shares on the XP machines, or new shares?

not sure which shares you mean - the shared folders? just default then, but its not the XP machines I have a problem with. The vista machine cannot log on to the win2k machine. XP logs on to win2k fine.
