When you say file you mean folder right? When you search you can actually right click and tell windows to open the location

Isn't it something to do with Itunes needing to make a lower grade copy for ipods, and then somehow the originals have either been deleted manually or via some random spaz from itunes?

I don't use Itunes very often, but I remember it always imports music then makes a low grade copy for some reason. I don't know why one of the copies has disappeared though, but itunes seems a bit flakey on windows, so anything is possible.

I have this all over the place in my iTunes library. WHen you import a load of stuff, and then edit it and set it as a Compilation, it copies the files to a Compilation folder but seems to mostly leave an empty artist/album folder aswell. I use Treesize to find them all and delete the empty ones. Hasnt caused any problems in the last 7 years of having an iPod !!!

Its to do with how itunes organises your music so its searchable by artist or album or genre etc.
