Shouldn't this be in NSR or even computer related?

Have you tried hooking it up to a wireless router and trying the software update that way?

Does it have official Sony firmware currently installed or some custom version? If it has Dark Alex's custom 3.40 installed then you will have to downgrade to 1.50 through the recovery menu then install the latest Sony firmware again. If it is running the official 3.40 then try updating by downloading the update from the internet and putting it on a memory card or as already mentioned through network update on the PSP.

If you are on a CFW and want to update to the latest CFW then will need more info as to what model PSP it is.

If it is running custom and you change back to official you will lose ability to run all your old homebrew, emulators and such. New homebrew can now be signed to run on official firmwares so this is not so much of a problem anymore.

Thanks for the replies Guy's - as far as I know it's just official Sony PSP software, I will check the unit to see what model/version it is.

Thanks.
