I need to get a webcam to use as a security device. Any advice anyone ? I looked at the Creative Labs PC300 and think this will do the job as i need good quality pictures.

I presume one that needs a PC is fine?

http://www.shrewsbury-atcham.gov.uk/webcam/ uses pictures from an Axis stand alone unit with an additional zoom lens (which I sold to the council )

More expensive as you don't need a PC to run it. http://www.axis.com/

Chris.

Hi

I managed to get an Axis camera on loan for a week. Great picture quality, fast and you can assign it it's on unique IP as it has it's own built in server.

Dead easy to set up - even for those with little networking knowledge.

Spend the extra 20 quid or so and get a Creative 600 one.

If you have a Maplins branch anywhere near you go have a look in there. They have loads of security cams and are usually quite helpful people. http://www.maplin.co.uk/

On my PC I use an Intel webcam and it is very good.

If you are looking for quality and don't want to hobble your system whilst you are doing it, there is no substitute for a dedicated capture card and camera. Take a look at winnov, and then buy a s-vhs camera header (something like a sony bullet cam). Should do the trick...
