hi all ,i used to have my ps3 connected to the internet through ethernet cable but decided to move it up stairs in our bedroom (incase i want a midnight race ),so i went to put it online again and i wont connect to my netgear router at all just says "check security settings for wireless lan" .
i can connect everything to the bloody wireless xboxs, iphones ,laptops, sonus and even bloody surround sound and toaster but hell no the ps3 wont have it

any suggestions

Dont use wireless Just use a homeplug in your bedroom.

That being said mine is in the office usually but moved it down to the lounge as had friends over xmas & ny. Changed to wireless for that period and worked fine. I assume when you scan for wireless networks you find your router? If so are you selecting the correct encryption type (WEP, WPA etc)?

tried entering the password in both wpa and wep ,in wpa it says "check security settings for wireless lan" and when i try wep it says something about like enter password 8-16 characters blah blah something ,ill try homeplugs anyone any ideas where you can get them cheap as its only for the ps3 which only gets used for gt5 occasionally

This might sound dumb but once you entered the password under WEP (assuming thats what your router is using) you did then click right to proceed with the other settings? If you just enter the wireless pwd it doesnt automatically skip to the next screen.

As for homeplugs I got 3 of these from Amazon and been running for 18months no problem:

There's a glut of the BT Comtrend ones on Ebay at the moment as BT are sending out new ones to customers as a safety recall.
The new black ones go for about £35 a pair.

Badged as 200 mbps units, I get about 120 mbps which is far better than my wireless and have been very reliable so far.

i just did the auto scan itstead of custom

do the custom one and see what happens i never have a problem if i decide to play wireless i only use wired connection as im a serious gamer and wireless causes lagg online

Wireless doesn't cause lag online, you are either connected or not. If you are saying your wireless connection is poor and therefore slow then far enough.

homeplug all the way m8, much better for streaming **** to the bedroom than wifi 2

I think you know what he was trying to say is that there are many variables that can affect wifi signals so a wired connection is preferred for gaming.

p1 is correct there are 2 reason why you could thing you have.


Your wireless is a poor signal ie your on 3rd floor router is on ground, OR

Even though your runnin 54G, if wife connects from 3rd floor and get a ****e signal, even if your sat ontop of router your throughput will be the same, this is the main issue with some G routers.

N was diff as its multi threaded on some and thus you get your own Link to the router.

Pers i play World of warcraft and world of tanks and its fine for me,

but wheneer i can i hardwire as its always the best..

Also alot of things can interfere with Wifi of which can cause a Hiccup thus LAG, MIMO routers help stop this
