Default Kinect worth getting your views ?

Is the Kinect worth getting any one got one and still use it or do you think it will be another 5 minute wonder like the wii was for most people.

Your views ?

I am tempted to trade the wii in for one.

I'm reliably via twitter that the answer is a resounding yes! But then I have a feeling Pollyana would say that. Mind you with the number of photo's she sent out with the tweets it seems she spent the whole day on it.

I won't however be getting 1, as I sold my xbox as it only got 2 hours use in 7 months, I'm no gamer.

We sold our wii and got over £100 with only 7 games cause we had bought the kinect ,our 3 year old daughter can now use the kinect she even turns it on then sets it up to play adventures and also kinectimals

So i give it a 10/10 cause the youngest isnt left out and has beaten my 9 year old daughter on it too .
Forza 4 is also kinect friendly

2 words.

YES

Amazing

Hours of fun for all the family, my 15month old is the only issue getting in the way of the sensor, and solution is just lift it above her head height. Its an awesome piece of kit, i bought the 360s (the new one) ready for Kinect and probably spent well over £400 on games, the xbox and the Kinect and it was worth every penny. PLUS the new star wars game is coming out soon which is Kinect friendly, so i can act like a real Jedi in my living room!

Can you have multi-players on kinect? If so how does it handle the players jumping all over the room - for instance like when playing tennis on the Wii?

Mmmm. I wasn't that impressed but then I'm old. I got invited to a pre-release event where you could play with the kinect.

It was good for dancing games, but everything else was cumbersome.

I'll say again that I'm old as I generally do not want to prance around whilst playing driving / fighting games.

I just bought one today as the wife wanted it, I already had a Xbox 360.

I have to say I was very sceptical but having tried it in Game it is actually a very good bit of kit, the sensor works very well, we have Kinnect Adventures which comes with the unit and Dance Central, it's a great bit of family kit, it won't stop me playing Call Of Duty etc but it's a great bit of kit, I used to own a Wii and for me this is like an evolution of the Wii, works far better.

I also believe absolutely anyone could play games on a kinnect

My nephew had one for Christmas, but I wasn't too impressed.

Considering how good the 360 has got regarding graphics and gameplay, this seemed to have taken a step back.
However I'm not sure if this is necessary because of the programming, and it bring too expensive, or if it wasn't aimed at an audience where it needed to be on par with the 360 games of late.

I don't think it's aimed at the usual xbox 360 audiance, I think it's more aimed to catch the family market which both the Xbox and PS3 has failed to capture until now IMO

That's what I was thinking.

In all honesty, I was thinking about getting one for my children for Christmas, but I don't have enough clearance between the tv and the sofa to play

I turned my TV stand on an angle to use Kinnect so I have the length of my living room, I believe 6ft is the minimum distance, My Kinect stands on the tv unit in front of the tv, sure I read somewhere if you put it on top of the tv the distance can be less, however you need a seperate mount to secure it on top of a tv which is not included in the pack, I wasn't aware of this so may well get one.

I don't even have that option as my sofa is against the wall.

A quick search shows tv mounts to be quite pricey.

How responsive is kinect?

I'm thinking about getting it but I have read reports that there are response/lag issues on certain games, boxing being the main one?

Are you guys having to punch 3 or 4 times for to land a punch in the game like you needed to with the wii at times?

Thats my opinion on it too.

I reckon the Wii will get hit pretty bad by Xbox and PS3 releasing these functions, as this was the entire selling point of the Wii.

True, Nintendo need to catch the others napping again with a killer feature if they want to release a sub standard console again, never thought my mother in law would buy a console and she would have no sooner bought a Nailgun than an Xbox or PS3.

I have mixed feelings about my Kinect - bought a slim model at xmas as a family present, had wii before which my 5yr old would play all day if u let him.

Hes not that bothered about the Kinect system, it seems to struggle to pick him up, especially holding on the buttons, he's got a bit fed up with it.

He back onto the Wii again now - although he *really* does like his Mario!

I've got Kinect Adventures, Motion Sports & Sonic Freeriders - out of all of them Adventures is by far the best.

Its a good workout too - play Adventures or Motion Sports for 20min your fcuked!
I also dont think the yanks appreciated how big the average UK living room is either, we struggle in our lounge in a 4bed detatched!

It wouldnt surprise me for them to release a 'UK tuned' version with different optics in for closer play.

Any updates on Kinect? My initial sceptism is wavering somewhat as the reviews (on sites like Argos) are almost all excellent.

My niece got one for xmas (already had a wii) and she hasn't used it for a month!
I tried it over xmas and I wasn't impressed with the graphics or gameplay to be honest. But then I never liked the wii, which I think is the most over-hyped pile of crap ever!
I suppose the sensor is better than the one on the wii, but that is like saying i'd rather be bitten by a crocodile than an alligator!

Both are still poor when compared to a hand held controller, so it make winning/losing some games 'pot-luck'.

For kids, yes, I suppose it will keep them entertained for a while, but don't buy one for yourself if you are into games. It will only dissappoint.

Much prefer having a controller. If I want to exercise, I'll go for a run, not switch the xbox on.

The wife is still using ours and still enjoying it, there is a bit of a lack of games at the moment since the xmas release although there was a good number of games released initially ( i think that reflects the games market generally in jan/feb)
There are a lot of rumors about a Halo Kinect game and a Starwars kinect game on the way as well which will be interesting
