Default How to choose a motherboard ?

I decided to build a PC despite knowing nothing about them and have been given a Radeon HD 6850 graphics card and an AMD Phenom 11 3.4 GHZ dual core processor. I now need a mother board, case, ram, sound card, hard drive and power supply. Now because the main use of this PC will me multi media I hace chosen a case and I presume a power supply will be simple but I have no idea how to choose a motherboard to match the chip and graphics card. Does it make much difference which mother board I get ?

yes is the answer, the better makes like asus and gigabyte and dfi tend to use better quality components which are better at regulating power etc.

onboard sound is very good these days so do you really need a seperate soundcard? if not look for intergrated (optical out etc) This will also mean you can use the hdmi output on your gfx card to work with sound as well (useful if going to an external receiver)

Look on overclockers.co.uk for motherboards, they generally have the reviews on them from real people who have used them, then get a shortlist and just read other review sites etc

Hi there everything depends which CPU you have AMD use one socket(i'm sure you have AM3 socket),and about the makers,Asus are good for money(and great for overclocking),Gigabyte are same very good and very good for overclocking and also good value for money,DFi are very overpriced but these are not the best,if you are not overclocker and like the tweaking Bios(best which is for AMD is currently ASUS Crosshair Formula, but really pricey).
Some new Motherboards now support DDR3...
And about the matching MB and CPU/GPU,i'm sure you have AMD X2 565(3.4GHZ) which is AM3(you must have for AM3 Motherboard),your GPU is PCI Express 2.0 x16 and will be compatible with any new Motherboard)
For Case you can have look for Coolermaster CM-390 II(these cases i have used for many customers).
For HDD you can have look for WD Black or Blue series(please don't go Green series, these are worst)
For PSU you can have look for OCZ ModXstream 500W(these are great PSU which are modular/no more messing with cables) and cost around 50-60£
For Soundcard you can go for Asus Xonar series which cost from 42£ to 120£,but if you musician look for M-Audio Delta LT10/10
You can have look at ebuyer.com(i brought some part for this company and i'm very satisfied,CCL are also good or scan.co.uk)

you are right about the GPU thats the exact one
and had planned on a case similar to this one so it can sit under the TV

If I treat myself to a christmas present it may be one of these

Hi there this motherboard is great for you(great price too).About the Case, depends which one you like, but Silverstone are really good piece of kit(i like SS style and are proven as excellent like with cooling, design etc.)or Zalman are too good and excellent reputation...
If you looking for these cases, you may have look for aftermarket Heatsink(or watercool,is easy to fit here is few http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=HS-003-CS
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coole...ystem-full-kit),due OEM heatsink are sometimes very noisy(at most cases are noisy)
