I'm gonna assume the connection is PPPoA if you are using ADSL over a POTS?

do you know how to access the router settings? There are guides for Linksys setups on the net but not quite for what you will need to do

Sorry I read this wrong you now currently on Sky not Tiscali my mistake.

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/askin...tions-faq.html

http://www.kitz.co.uk/isp/sky_connection.htm

these settings may help you get online with the Linksys but may or may not improve the net itself.

If it's still slow after using the Linksys router it could be the Sky broadband itself.....but one step at a time.

does the speed improve if you leave the router switched on (and connected) for a few days?

I was under the impression sky used hardcoded user/passwords on their branded routers and was a right **** ache to get and replicate onto a netgear etc.

All that is needed is the LAN MAC Address@skydsl and the serial number for the password.

It is very easy to get (or was anyway, it's been a while since I have done it for someone)

Hmm my bet is that you are suffering from terrible contention and traffic shaping put in place by Sky. Not sure a new router will help.

But why should i pay for the internet if i cant use it never had this bother with tiscali. The contract states :
