I like the old school C:\ approach and wonder if I can get XP to default to say c:\mystuff when I open a save as box etc?

On Win2K, you can make "My Documents" any folder you want. (eg. a network share or even c:\mystuff). Be a bit gobsmacked if you couldn't do the same in XP.

Just right click on the desktop "my documents" icon and edit the target folder.

Or if you are using Word or something, u can set the location from the menu, Tools, Options, File Locations.
