Default Lost a pc on the network ??

We currently have 3 pc's in the house,

The main PC which is our main storage music / pics & has the router

connected to it & runs XP Pro. & 2 others which are my wifes and sons.

I've set up a network, and only getting some success.

The 3rd pc running vista, can see the main pc and can communicate with it & file share

However the 2nd pc is proving to be a pita !!

It can connect to the internet, but steadfastly refuses to be seen on the network

I reinstalled Comodo firewall, in case it was a firewall problem (doesn't

appear to be)

What happens, is nothing shows up in the network area, other than the

router?? and Tversity server, which is a media server i use to stream stuff

round the house

I cant remove the Tversity server on the 2nd pc, and no matter how many

times i try and setup the machine on the network, using a unique name &

our workgroup, it can't see any of the other pc's or be seen by them.

Yet a few months ago, i had a link to the shared folder on the main PC

working.

Any ideas? its running XP home BTW

other way is find out what Ips your router gives out common is 192.168.0.x

setup all Pcs with a static IP so 192.168.0.3 and so on use 255.255.255.0 as subnet and gateway put your router normally 192.168.0.1 if in doubt run command prompt ( dos window ) and type IPCONFIG the gateway address on the pc is ya router.

Ok once done check see if you see them.

Failing that try open the drives manually lets say you on .3 and main pc is .2 and drive u want is d:\

type this at the run command \\192.168.0.2\d$ and see if it open, also if your on a router and its NAT you dont really need a firewall as well on ya PC, u can but you dont really, NAT is the firewall to your house.

Shout if u get stuck

I'm no expert but have you set-up a "shared" access on the invisible machine ?

I use W7 on all four machines, and can only access my files on "my" PC with my password, but all have free access to the shared storage on my media server/HTPC.

It may be an XP thing on the PC that's invisible ?

All sorted

I reinstalled Xp on the hidden lappy

apart from having a good clear out, it boots faster, and is visible on the network ...

one minor prob to solve ... 2 networks identified lol but both accessed from

one network?

All media on the network storage, and linked via WMP itunes & Clementine
