Default Downloading stuff...

In view of these various legal firms sending out threatening letters / demands for payment to those alleged to have been involved in copyright infringement due to downloading (or uploading) files using peer to peer networks such as BitTorrent..... If, hypothetically , you did want to download some copyrighted material without being found out what's the most secure method?

Is newsgroups using a provider like Giganews with SSL still the best option or have things moved on?

Can BitTorrent be made more secure / untraceable by your ISP? I've heard of things like PeerGuardian, what do they do for you?

It's interesting that none of these letters have been contested in court yet, but the evidence for the prosecution would seem to be shaky to say the least, will be interesting to see what happens when a test case does occur.

Remember though kids piracy is theft, I don't condone it, and you're a common criminal if you do so Just interested in the technology

Get a seedbox hosted in a country where the RIAA et al have no jurisdiction (£15 per month?) - Then just FTP (ideally over SSL) into it from home and get what you want.

Hypothetically of course.

I think it's mainly the peer to peer stuff that they're targetting, never thought that sort of thing was a good idea for sharing 'copyrighted' material.

I use these
http://www.astraweb.com/

180 gig for $25 + free SSL.

I get the feeling that the only people who are going to get letters etc. are the same type that PC helplines make there money from.
