Any Hackintosh experts here?
I've got iATKOS v7 triple booted on my Acer netbook with xp and win 7 and all runs fine and had it for ages and all is stable. It's still on OSX 10.5.7 but i've just found out it's easy to put on 10.5.8 and get it working again so will do this soon. Then need to find out how to upgrade to 10.6 and how easy that is for someone who doesn't know Linux command line. From what i've seen so far looks a bit of a nightmare.
I'm now wanting to dual boot my main machine, my Dell Inspiron 1720. Has any one put OSX on an Inspiron and can let me know of any issues/guides they know of?
This is the best thread i've come across so far:
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ind...howtopic=15474
But then says use iATKOS if you have it anyway but no specific step by step instructions.
Also would prefer Snow Leopard if possible to do to save the difficult route of upgrading later.

You have some time to spare if you are trying to do this Cannot help you personally as I have so many other paying projects on.
I do wish you luck, but I fear you are going to have to dig deep into mac specific forums. Its always going to be harder to get mac software to run on a pc, as apple may not have the necessary drivers. Even harder when its on a laptop, as lots of manufacturer specific drivers may not even exist.

Cheers and thanks for the offer of help. I've found this thread tonight which is iATKOS S3 which is Snow Leopard and looks like one other user has it already working on an Inspiron 1720 (top of page 4):

Mines a core2duo 2.0 with nvidia 8600M GT so not one of the new generation. Hopefully will get round to disk imaging a backup next week and then can have a play.

Well its installed However I wouldn't say it was very functional as no network, either ethernet or wireless and no sound plus rebooting just hangs so have to power off
However whilst booted up it seems everything is working application/software wise so just need kexts for the various hardware now.
Will try some more installs as well adding/changing options in iatkos setup now I know I have 1 working selection of options.

Thanks for those links. I think the 2nd one may be my best bet using their attachments. Other info requiring editing the dsdt file is way above my station currently!
Just trying another install with different options selected to see if it makes any dfference otherwise going back to previous selection and then downloading kexts.

UInstaller is easy Mac OSx86 Post installation tool to do everything you need in one simple click(which include dsdt, kext etc.),here is link
http://osx.iusethis.com/app/uinstaller
OSX86Tools is much its same, but i think its much better.

OK cheers will have a look Did my fresh install and got sound and ethernet connection Video is at 1400x990 using graphic enabler in the install options. However that means shutdown etc wont work and manually have to power of but not too fussed on that.
Most important thing for me now is getting the wireless working without having to buy another dell mini card if possible.
You mention QE/CI, what is this and how do I know if it is working on mine?

For wifi driver visit this website
http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/
and for video/gpu driver visit this website http://netkas.org/
For QE/CI enable(if you don't have QE/CI enable) you need NVEnabler, which is easy download from internet.
To check QE/CI under system profiler, graphic displays

Mine is:
So is yours using the above mentioned video driver and able to shutdown and restart OK? Having done some reading having the nvidia driver working stops shutdown/restart and isn't possible to have both work fine hence me asking!

Mine is doing QE/CI as the menu bar across the top is transparent. From what i'm reading the power off/reboot wont work if you have the Nvidia drivers working properly. I can live with that as it shuts down, just have to power it off manually.
Still need to sort out the trackpad and the card reader so need to go back through the links as I think the kexts are listed somewhere.
It might just be the novelty factor and the way quicktime displays in OSX but high def video looks better played in OSX than in Windows 7, its absolutely stunning!

Cheers that was the one I was after. However followed the instructions and trackpad only works after the install and rebooted with -f switch. Then reboot and it's no longer working again. Have to reinstall the kext again and just goes round in circles.
Also did the Microsoft keyboard thing but my International icon has gone from system preferences so can't actually enable it!

Thanks. Whenever I try to use osx86tools for kexts they are always greyed out when I try to select them so end up using another program. I'll try again with the other program to install the kext and open osx86tools and tick repair permissions straight after and then reboot and see what happens.
Any idea why I can't select kexts in osx86tools?
