Post BB 9700 question

Finally got the GF to let me get the sim out of here old 6310i to activate the upgrade she has had sitting around for the last 6 months (its been torture, she does'nt like new tech!)

Now it only seems to ring once then vibrate, which is adjustable for i.e. 3/5/7 etc repeats, but for the life of me I cannot find a way to make it ring more than once. Any Suggestions

Also can't get it to MMS , I send it one and it supplies a web link!! to go to, and it won't send. Now it works on e-mail but thats not the point.

ps it is on T-mobile.

cheers for any pointers

First bit isn't that clear but it seems you want the phone to carry on ringing for longer before it goes to voicemail or is it just the ringtone you have? If the former then that's down to your network. If the latter then try a different ringtone.

MMS, you need to get T-Mobile to activate that on the SIM if it's taking you to the web link.

Do you have BIS active on that SIM? you need to to get the web features of the BB.

Cheers i'll have to get her to phone t-mobile re the mms (strange as the website says just send/recieve to another phone that is mms activated)to get it to work.

Re the ring, yes it will only ring once no matter what tone is selected (in the set up it only allows you to change the number of vibrate repeats).

presuming the BIS is active as all the emails seem to work (both in and out), and web access is ok.

ability to receive MMS is not active I would guess but maybe try getting the setting sent to the BB to make sure.

http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-a...TWAREDOWNLOADS

Ring length is carrier set I believe so maybe speak to T-mobile.

If your emails are being pushed through and you can access the net then yes BIS would appear to be active.

Side note. May be worth update the handset firmware before you put all your setting in if not already been done.

The SIM sounds like it wont be a 3G sim, possibly not even GPRS capable, assuming the old SIM has been retained for use in the new phone.

Where are you trying to adjust the ringing from. If you go into Profiles, then RingTone/Alerts, select phone.... From there you can select if it rings and vibrates together or seperatly, ring volume, ringtone, how the LED behaves, how lnog it vibrates for, and in which mode it does what you selected (i.e in or out of holster)

number of times it rings will depend on 2 things, network setting and ringtone type. Mine rings 4-5 times on classic.

It is showing 3G and GPRS connections depending on location, The sim was replaced a "few" years ago when she had a phone nicked.

Tried the std "classic" ring but it only does it the once. I will have a deeper delve when I can find it again in her handbag!!

When you say it only rings once, how long does it actually ring for when you are calling it from another phone? Does it cut off or divert to voicemail quickly, or is it ringing down the phone but just not at the handset end?

All sounds very strange indeed.
Has the phone been reset since it first did this (i.e battery removed) ?

Good news on the SIM though

Right rang it last night from my mob, and it rings several times at my end, the actual phone rings once then does the x number of vibrates, this was with different std bb ringtones.

Thinking about it, when I updated it and backed up the contacts to outlook, I did'nt do a battery pull, I'll try that tomorrow and see if theres any change.

If you go to the T Mobile site you can send the mms settings to your phone from there. You may need to sign up to the help and suppot section but its worth while because you can back up your phone settings and numbers as well.

Here's the page I think you'll need, just enter the phone number and the settings will be sent.

Try this:

**61*+MOBILE_NUMBER_HERE*11*30#

The 30 on the end is the time in seconds that it will ring for.

The 9700 has had a software issue recently where the phone only sounds the ringtone once when it's holstered.

I fixed it by using an MP3 ringtone.

Can you display your ringtone settings here?

Mine's set at:

Ring Tone: (Classic)
Volume: 10
Play Sound: Always
LED: On
Vibration: On
Vibrate with Ring Tone: On

Can you go to settings - about and tell me the firmware you're running?

I'm running v5.0.0.656 (Platform 5.1.0.153)

I've personally found this to be the best 9700 for my handset. The performance and battery life outstripping any I've tried on here before.

My PIN is 221148F0 if you want to add me on BBM

You can get the latest OS (the one I'm using) from any of the links on this page: http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/b...dafone-de.html

Upgrading the OS isn't *that* straight forward, I'm afraid, so I'll do my best to explain how here. the filepaths/names are from memory as I'm on my mac, so please bear with me:

1. charge battery (at least half)
2. Install BlackBerry Desktop Manager (which installs the drivers for the phone)
3. download and install one of the upgrade files from the links in the page above (it doesn't matter which one, or that it isn't for your provider)
4. go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
5. delete vendor.xml
6. empty the recycle bin
7. run apploader.exe from that folder, and follow the destructions.
8. Wait for the backup and the restore process. Be warned that the final boot can take about 20 mins and it may seem like the BB has bricked. Be patient.
