Default IP Address names

If I have an IP address of a machine how can I determine say a machine name from the IP adddress?

If you're in a corporate enviroment then use NSLOOKUP which will perform a reverse lookup in DNS

or try nbtstat -a * IP ADDRESS *

edit: This only works on your network though!!

Doesn't matter - just found the answer (nslookup or ping -a)

this will only work if reverse DNS is configured for the Zone in question

(which by default it isn't)

That is true

I didn't want to start going through the ins and outs of DNS with him.

the nbtstat also works too by the way
