Default Xbox Elite Data Transfer Cable

With the 20% extra being offered at the moment for trade-ins from Game I think I'm gonna upgrade my 20gb Premium 360 to a 120gb Elite (Just for the additional hard disk space)
I don't suppose anybody has the MS data transfer cable they could lend to me for a few days while I do it? (I'll send it back once I'm finished)
I'm gonna order one direct from Microsoft anyway but want to buy the console before the trade in deal finishes (As I know it'll take forever to arrive from good old MS!)
Even better if anybody close to Warrington has one and I could pick it up!!

Thanks

Nick

Yes mate you're right but as I mentioned, it's cheaper for me to replace the whole console cheaper than the cost of a 120gb hdd

You can re download stuff onto the new drive and transfer the license, does this not help?

Don't you need both the consoles side by side to use the cable? Or do you use the cable to back up to the PC?

How much is the swap likely to cost? I could quite fancy an Elite too

Also, just thought, how can you check that your bank details have been removed before part-exing your console? I pay monthly for Live.

You do need both HDD's to do the transfer, so unless you can talk them in to letting you do the transfer in the shop there is a flaw in your plan.

Just transfer it in the shop, I did and it was quite a common request apparently.

Well, Game will give me £90 for my Premium plus if I buy the £209.99 3 game bundle and trade the games straight back in I reckon it will cost me about £50 ish to 'upgrade'! (Thus cheaper than buying a 120gb hdd)

No flaw mate! I have another 120gb Elite downstairs so was gonna copy the 20gb data to that and then install that hard drive into the new console!
Or to keep it simple I may take yours and Gooners advice and do the data transfer in the shop!

I know years back on the original Xbox when i traded in for the crystal they did it in the shop for me.

Your second Elite, does that have any saves on it?, cause the Data transfers are one time only's, and i would imagine the disc that comes with the transfer cable will format the drive. Ask in shop would be the best bet.

I'm not too worried about the game saves on the Elite to be honest!
My little lad plays that one from time to time but it's my Premium console that has all my game saves on (Well all my Car Racing game saves due to it being linked to gaming seat, wheel/pedals)
I will check in the shop though!

Thanks for your advice. Much appreciated

I bet the £39 ones are from Hong Kong?
I wouldn't trust them to be 'official' MS products!

There is some from Hong Kong and some from Canada, it wouldn't bother me about it being official MS as long as it done the job.

Yeah, but for not a lot more, I can get a brand new console (With warranty)
Plus, you can get a 120gb oem drive from here for £44 plus delivery (And it ships from the UK)
The danger of using non standard MS hard drives is that one day they can allegedly stop non genuine hard drives from working by a system update to the console. Whether they do or not is anybodys guess though! (Not my words but stuff I've read on web forums in the past)

Since you put this idea in my mind i've been looking into it too Game will now offer only £72 for the 20GB 360 but bearing in mind the deals they have at the moment I should be able to get an Elite plus Forza 3 and Bio 2 for £199. Cashing these in (£40 ish) and using the credit on my trade in card it should only cost me the price of a new black wireless controller Quite a good way of getting rid of a two year old console before the inevitable problems occur.
Did you end up swapping yours?

Swapped today. They didn't end up having that deal so went for another with a free extra pad instead. It ended up costing me the 20GB 360, four games and £48.
Word of advice though, firstly, the 20% extra on trade ins ends on Wednesday and secondly they didn't have a data cable in either of the stores in Meadowhall so I lost my saves. I've been able to recover my Gamertag and luckily MW2 saves online so my stats are still there.
It looks nice in black

Do they wipe your old harddrive whilst your there? Otherwise it'll have all you saves, downloads (arcade and game addons) and if it's like mine then the payment details to automatically renew Live!?

I bet they don't, but when you sign in on the new console change your password.

I asked about wiping it, they said it would be done. I get the impression they send them off for repackaging and checking as the used ones i've seen leave the store are in different boxes, she didn't even turn mine on!
I asked about the account details as I pay monthly for Live, they said it's linked to the online profile and stored online, this looked to be the case when I recovered my Gamertag as is came up with Gold member then. I'll still be changing my password though

Yep, swapped mine last weekend mate!
Many thanks to Gooner for the loan of his data transfer cable. Worked a treat and wipes the original hard disk once the data has been transferred...

Here's how much it cost me to upgrade to a 120gb Elite:

209.99 (Elite & 3x Bioshock 2)

£72 trade in on my original 360 plus £9.60 for an extra (white) wireless controller
£15 GAME points used
£78 CASH from CEX for the 3x Bioshock 2

£35.39 total...

I knew those Game points would come in handy one day!!

Yeah, the guy in Game told me that MS had dropped the price of the 360 Core down to £99.99 the day BEFORE I traded mine in so it had a knock on effect on the second hand value. If I'd have traded mine in earlier I would have got £90. Ah well, some you win....

Handy if you just want a console but the GAME deal is better that I got if you chop the games straight back in at somewhere like CEX...
