I use it all the time.
Basically Mobile Me is the follow on from idisk and .mac accounts.
So if you had a .mac account and email address you were changed or updated to mobile me. It lost a few things but in return you get the mobile me email address, the storage on idisk, calendars, contacts, iphone rescue (find me), gallery etc
I sync my email accounts with my iphone, have access to my idisk on the iphone as well as the calenders and mobile me photo gallery (from iphoto)
Works a treat

Phil, There is a free 60-day trial for it. Looks like you need to provide a member name (3 to 20 character) and this name will also be used for your mobile me email address (membername@me.com) which cannot be changed after sign-up. Thus I'd have to say you cannot use your SIDC address, apart from it being an alternate address to use for account recovery purposes.
