Sorry to post yet another question but.......... as the press are reporting that Microsoft will dump Nvidia and Intel for the X-Box 2 in favour of their own in house production will this mean that X-Box games will not work on the X-Box 2 if the original games were specifically written for the hardware. I am a worried that I will have another console boxed with games in the attic in 4 years whereas it looks likely the PS3 will support PS2 games.

I severely doubt that MS would make a 2nd gen system that isnt backward compatible with the first. Just because the hardware is changing doesnt mean the games wont work.
