BroadBand - end of Contract

BroadBand - end of Contract
BT have just rung me and said my contract is up for renewal on 26th January 2010.
To be honest, I've had reasonably decent service from BT.
Anyway, they are prepared - as I am a good customer - to let me have what I have for £12:99 a month ... if I sign a new 12 month deal. Instead of the usual charge of £14:99.
But, I said, you did the deal 12 months ago at £7:49 a month to keep me. Oh, he said, I haven't got all the details on the screen -
Anyway - he has kindly reminded me to look around.
What is SN's favourite broadband at the moment and how much should I be paying?

I'm paying £5 a month to Plusnet for the same speed BT wanted to charge me their full whack rate for (as BT don't tell you what line supports, they just want your money).
Having said that, I'd happilly take Virgin via fibre optic cable to get the 50Mb service and avoid the noisy BT line that I've endured for nearly 3 years as BT claim there is no fault on the line

I am a supporter of Virgin Media, I have the telephone, TV and Internet package.
The art of haggling is not lost with them and the connection is very stable for me...which is paramount.
Not true for everyone Im sure but have that many customers you will always get a few problems.

Worth looking here as well to see what your Exchange covers:
SamKnows Broadband - Availability - Exchange Search
And yes your BT E-mail will be a casualty when you move. I personally would look at 02 or BE as I have heard a lot of happy people using their services.

AOL.
Had an issue last years when they moved the servers but since then its been a fautless service.
I paid £14.99/month until I told them I was going to transfere to Sky when I got HD installed.
Anyway, I now pay £6.49/month for unlimited download up to 8mb speed(max I could get is supposed to be 1.5mb according to Samknows. To be fair its been spot on speed wise and it just works every time you switch on. If you were to have a problem there is online help and telephone support.
I wont be moving whilst it continues like this.

Im with AOL now, at the end of the free laptop, 18 month contract with calls thing. I had a call the other day from a guy who offered me, as I was such a valued customer, £4 off a month, if I sign on for another 18 months. I said no, and that I could find an internet service provider that would have a month by month contract. Is there still such a thing, as I argued with him for a bit. Whether I am right or wrong, Im looking for another provider as the hired gun had the audacity to argue with the customer!

Not sure about your BT email. If you had an AOL email address you could continue to use that even if you changed ISP.
