Question Podcasts - All New To Me!

Evening all ...

Got an X Series Sony MP3 Player for Xmas - seems really good.

It can, apparently, download Podcasts from the Internet - sounds useful, only I have never done anything Podcast wise! The instructions with the unit are of little use to me (they assume you know the basics, I don't!).

Podcasts are, as I can make out, a way to take radio and video with you on your device (my Sony X Series) and watch/listen whenever I wish ..... is this the same as the BBC iPlayer? I don't quite understand that either (except I can watch things I missed on my PC).

I can see that I need a program to get these Podcasts - iTunes, Zune or Zencast ..... which is best? Do I need one of these? What do I do?

Basically, what do I need to do to get stuff via Podcast onto my Sony MP3 Player? Any tips? Anything I should avoid?

Thanks

I listened to my first ever podcast last week, iirc as far as i could work out it was a little radio show in mp3 format.

That is about it as far as i could see to be honest ........

How did you get the Podcast on your MP3 Player Micky?

I have tried to on the MP3, it just says I need to subscribe - but doesn't give a clue as to how, why and when

Dr Karl is excellent

A podcast is essentially a fancy name for an mp3 media file

(usual tech crap speak to cover something essentially very trivial in a cool sounding name, a bit like blogging -- err it’s an online fvcking diary you idiot)

anyway the USP of podcasting is that you can "subscribe" to them -- which means they automatically download -- wow, but this is more a virtue of web technology than MP3 media format

I downloaded it via a twitter link
You might need a little bit more help

Can you not just download the podcast of your choice as a .mp3 file ?

Right, I've found some RSS Feeds listed in the MP3 and have selected some stuff and it is downloading them as I type .... we shall see what happens.

Do they renew each day/week/month? Or do I have to download them all over again?

Thanks for the replies ....
