No one with an Apple computer uses Usenet anymore. The pirates moved in and we all moved out. I suggest stealing a PC and using that.

Surely there's more to it than just piracy?

Depends on what you want to actually use usenet for. I believe google groups is basically a web based usenet group reader, so if you're simply wanting to read alt.newsgroups.simpsons.tv then that should allow you to do it.

Funnily enough, we did write and publish an app called, umm, I think it was newshound/newsrunner, it's been a while since I looked and it is probably OS 9 only. I recall writing an applescript to take a feed from the app and put it into a filemaker database for reading. Pretty sure it didn't do file downloads though, but not sure.

The old boss wanted a newsreader app that wasn't ya-newsreader, which was one of the mac ones out there. I can't for the life of me remember why he wanted it though. But hey, he was the boss and so we wrote it. I seem to recall using it for reading the aforementioned simpsons group along with babylon 5 and DS9 groups too.

As for other readers, I think Panic Unison is a reader. It's been a very long time since I've looked at usenet so I'm a bit out of touch.
