Question OK - XP Pro on kid's Lappy... how to lock it down?

Sorry, I'm a Mac luddite - gave up with PCs a long time ago!

Got my daughter a lappy with XP Pro for Chrimbo. I'm not used to this whole concept of locking machines down - the Mac does it really easily

Anyhoo, in all seriousness, I do need to lock down most of the Control Panel etc and perhaps something along the lines of net nanny.....

So far, I'm running Google Chrome (**** me it's much quicker than Firefox!)

AVG and Adaware SE (automated).

How do I lock down websites etc? I used to use Tweak UI to mod the OS - is this still any good?

Got to be good for a 9 yr old!!!

Suggestions?

Dan

I've just let my two children (9 and 6) loose on their own PC with a seperate (non-admin) user ID each and this: K9 Web Protection - Free Internet Filtering and Parental Controls Software

OK - that K9 is fantastic

Thanks for that.

So, to lock down things like control panels, is it still tweakui, or are there any other ones to look at?

Thanks

Dan

I use a web-browser add-on for Firefox called Kidzui & its really good - just edited the desktop shortcut so it launches straight into it.

KidZui, The Internet For Kids

Also just create her a limited account on XP - give yourself an admin account so you'll be the only one who can install stuff

Create her a seperate non-admin account so she can't install things or mess with any of the important settings.
I use an add-on for Firefox called Kidzui for my 7-year old, its like a kid-safe browser. I edited the desktop shortcut so it fires straight up when Firefox starts.

ive been through this real pain

basically windows will tie him/her down abit but 3rd party stuff is needed.

Windows 7 is better with time barriers also, but still not mega.

I used Parental Control, Internet Filter, Online Safety Software and Services | CyberPatrol

is the best but costs

The other 1 is from Bluecoat people leader in web caching appliances

K9 Web Protection - Free Internet Filtering and Parental Controls Software

Give em a go

one i wanted was to shutdown the pc when its bed but they are hard to find, only a few exist
