Good laptop deal?
It's time for a new laptop but I can't be arsed doing lots of research to find a good deal. Was thinking about this: Acer Aspire 7535G Laptop - Laptops at Ebuyer
Are Acers any good? seems a good spec. 4g Ram, 17" screen 5gb HDD and 2.2 processor. Anymore ideas? Don't want to spend more than 4-5 hundred.
TIA
Jer

Where I work we have HP / Compaq stuff which seems pretty reliable.
At home I have an HP desktop and 2 HP laptops that the 13 / 11 / and 4 year old bash about and generally abuse / spill drinks / crisps and they still keep going
I'm not a computer expert but they do seem pretty well screwed together LOL

I bought one of the Acer 5536 models for £379 from Currys recently after my ex-work Compaq gave up, mine came with 4gb ram though, this reviewed one doesn't Acer Aspire 5536-643G50Mn review from TechRadar UK's expert reviews of Laptops and netbooks It's the second Acer i've had and once again i'm impressed with what you get for the cash. I'd give it a go!

You say you don't want to do lots of research but I'd recommend getting something with an Intel 'Core 2 Duo' in. NOT Pentium dual-core, or Core Solo (or variations) or Celeron as they are not the same, whether they've got 2 cores or not. That way you're only 1 generation behind on the processor front.
Personally, if I can swing a new laptop I'll go Core i7 but they're still pricey ...

TOSHIBA L350D-213 17"/3GB/250GB £350 from Comet
£369 reduced by 5% with 5300AW code to £350.55
17" 1440*900 screen QL-64 CPU 3GB/250GB Win 7 Home Prem
3 times the memory of my old Fujitsu, CPU should be 40% faster than my T2050, better than 1280*800 present screen, stop me sitting on the main PC in winter in the cold room.
Won't be using HD, Blu-ray or games, so seems quite good for internet/email/bit of ECU disassembly.
Anything better for the cash?

Seems like a good deal John but we will probably see some good deals just before Christmas. I just don't know what to do now with 64bit and Windows 7.

Don't be put off it it comes with Vista, mine did but if you wanted to get Windows 7 all you had to do was register on the Acer site and pay the £12 fee for the cd, p&p and import tax (it came from the Czech Republic). I think they were doing it on computers sold within the last 4/5 months. It took about a week to arrive and installed with no problems.

It seems Win 7 32 bit will run most of my stuff, 64 bit has issues I gather with some of the drivers I use. I nearly bought this one last night, but it doesn't have an SD slot which I use a fair bit. I know I could get a small USB-SD dongle, but it might be a PITA.
