Default Dell Laptop Question Re: Tired Battery?

I've had a Dell Studio 17 laptop for about 6 months now. It's on all day most days now plugged in so the battery is constantly being charged. The other day when I plugged it in, the display didn't brighten up like it usually does. Does this mean it's time for a new battery or could it be some other problem?

It does seem to not hold it's charge as well now.

Made the same mistake with my Samsung laptop - leaving it mains powered with the battery in destroys the battery. Dont know if it is a heat thing, or overcharging.

I use my wife's dell laptop at home and I charge it overnight and unplug it every morning. Battery life is around 6 hours under normal usage and it is 5 years old now.

Ah right cheers. This is my first laptop... I didn't even realise you could take the battery out when it was plugged in.

Looks like I'll have to order another.

This sounds more like the inverter (which converts battery electrickery into fluorescent-tube friendly trickery) for the screen is knackered!

Happened on my 17-inch Inspiron after just over a year (bugger, outside warranty).

I suggest that you call DELL as you should be within your guarantee period. They should be able to suggest tests to check if it is the screen, barrery, 'verter etc.

Replacement batteries are NOT cheap
