Hardware vs Software firewall
hello, all, been wondering whether I need both? I use a Netgear with NAT and limited outbound ports, so do I need a software firewall as well (on each PC), is it belt and braces or do they protect different areas?
GRC says full stealth? would trojans etc be more of an issue with software firewall protection.
Cheers

A hardware firewall doesn't know what application is trying to access the Internet - so if a trojan connected via HTTP then it probably wouldn't get blocked!
A software firewall (on each PC) could block (or permit) individual applications.
One example is Windows Media Player - whenever you run it, it connects to somewhere on the Internet
Why does it do this?
What information is it transmitting?
Do you want this kind of sneaky behaviour?
So yup, you need both - if only because a "leak" in one will hopefully get plugged in the other.
