on a NON-jailbroken iphone. Is it possible?

I do not believe it is possible. I think you're limited to the sounds Apple provides. Not sure why they don't open that up, maybe for 3.1?

There is a really conveluted way of doing it on a standard iPhone, I looked into it when I first got mine, but it was such a faff I didn't bother. Have a search on google cause there are a few guides (some clearer than others!)
