I go to My Computer and there is nothing showing that there is a disc inserted hope this makes sense.

It sounds like an incompatible or corrupt disc, try a few different dvd`s or cd`s in your drive to try and narrow down what the problem is.

As an example, if the DVD your tryng to play is dual layer and your drive doesn`t recognise dual layer then that sort of thing will happen. Also check what region the dvd is that your trying to play as your drive maybe set to just read region 2 and you could be trying to play an NTSC disc or similar.

Did you say its a CD or DVD, try playing both and a few different discs. Its probably just a corrupt disc or your laser head may need cleaning with a cleaning disc as its possible the laser head could have dirt on it and its struggling to read discs..

Sounds more like a dirty lens on the unit. Open the draw and have a look at it to see how dirty it is. You may be able to clean it with a DRY cotton bud but be VERY GENTLE!!!

If that does not work try going through device manager to get information on the unit and see if you can reload the drivers. Prior to taking the computer to a ripoff, p(w0£!d, try uninstalling the unit from device manager and rebooting this will re-install the drivers for the unit and hopefully fix it have the computer on the internet so it may get the latest drivers.
