Default xp/vista/w7 64-bit with only 2GB memory?

is it worth using 64-bit OS if the installed memory is only 2GB?

I'd say yes.

However I'd avoid XP64 as it a bit nightmarish.

Go straight for windows 7

if you're getting an OS, then 64 bit now will make OS upgrades in the future easier, but the reality is that 64bit just offers a wider address space; the ability to access a larger RAM and disk base.

As above, it won't make any noticable difference now, but once you add more memory it will.
