Default iPHONE - how to get thumbnails for music artists

If I manually transfer mp3's onto the iPHONE, how do you get the little thumbnail pictures of the artist ?

Is there an additional image file I have to put amongst the mp3 files ?

It depends on where you got the .mp3 from and how you ripped it. If you need to get them manually then you can use somewhere like discogs.com, then select the album in iTunes, get info, then drag the image to the artwork tab.

go into itunes.click advanced and then get album artwork. It will check everything in itunes and lets you know what it cannot find..Next time you sync your iphone it will be updated with artwork..

Ok thanks - will check that.

I manually place the mp3 files into iTunes. I don't download from the iTunes shop.

I use google images to get album art, anything that's around 300x300 will do the job.
And as said, just drag and drop to the album art.

As long as the files are still the correct artist and song it should find it in the database. It would also depend on what music you listen to. I have alot of dance/trance stuff and it does not find much of that although it did to my suprise find and old cheesy dance track DJ Jean the launch :-)

I have the art work on my computer, but I don't know how to put it on the iPHONE.

All I've done with iTUNES is create a playlist on the phone called <album name> then I've dragged and dropped the mp3 files from my computer into the playlist in iTUNES.

Not sure how to drag and drop any album artwork into the playlist ?

I recently embarked in to the wonderful world of iTunes. Of the first 10 albums I listened to iTunes only found album art for about 5 (all had album art in MediaPlayer) The iTunes help gives instructions on how to associate art with the tracks but I found it very awkward. Silly old me was under the impression Apple software was intuitive and easy to use. Doesn't encourage me to ditch M$ and move to the brave new world if everything is so difficult

Do you have the artwork viewer visible in the left hand column (the one where all the playlists are displayed), if not, down the bottom of the window, on the left hand side there should be various buttons, on my setup the last one of these looks like this:

[^] (A square with an upward facing arrow). If I hover over this it states "Show or Hide the Artwork or Video Viewer", click on this and it will display a little pane.

Next, select your playlist, then select the songs in it that you want to apply artwork too. You should see in the little pane we opened it states "Drag Artwork Here", so all you need to do is find the artwork image you want to apply to the selected tracks and then drag and drop it in the pane and it'll apply it to the selection.

You then sync the playlist to the iPod, replacing the existing items and it'll copy the artwork over.
