Sharing files over a network how??
I have a home network of a desktop pc, connected via ethernet to the router, and a lappy connected wirelessly..
I have a folder on the desktop with all our mp3's in... i want the lappy to see that folder only..
easy peasy according to MS right click the folder and allow sharing...
done that and nothing...
the lappy can see the desktop pc but cant acces it, and vice versa..
no windows firewall involved... comodo and ZA on the desk & lappy..
when i try to access either machine via the net options, it says no admin rights, etc.. yet i'm the admin for both machines...
any ideas

is this XP or Vista? I wrote a guide for lectures in my place ages ago for XP machines, if you want that pm me your email addy. For an XP box is simple file sharing enabled? When you say they can "see" the folder do you mean they can see the share but don't have permissions?

admin access on machine one does not mean admin access (or indeed any access) on machine two - each machine has its own security database
to make it easier you can either make them the member of the same workgroup and then keep user names and password the same (MS "pass thru authentication" will take care of the rest) or enable Guest access and set permissions on the share to everyone and the file (ntfs) permissions to anonymous
this is for XP professional -- home might be different
