Question Page size to fit the screen - macbook ?

When I load a page, say ebay, to view an item for sale, usually the page width matches the screen..ie no scroll bar at the bottom. Just occasionally the page will load and is too wide, about twice the size of the screen and I have to use the scroll bar that is now at the foot of the screen in order to read the print to the end of the line and then scroll all the way back to start the next line. Is it the page originator..ebay..my settings.. a funny macbook or what ? What causes it and is a cure possible so every page loaded fits the screen ? I use a macbook and OS 10.4.11 and Safari 4.0
Hope this makes sense.
Cheers and thanks

Sounds like poor (or intended) design, example would help.

I've seen some Yahoo groups pages exhibit the same behaviour, two fingers on the trackpad should scroll sideways, saves looking for the bar.

Ah yes , but being of the Luddite computer illiterate generation that may well be a step too far as just a 'copyfile' ( yes I can do that....just) may or not show it...no idea !

Thanks anyway.

Was just looking for a site that exhibits said activity, then can be confirmed if it's platform/browser specific or just the way the site is.

Thanks for the help. It happens on e-bay. Most of the time the page is ok and can be read as a correct page width wise. Other times ,perhaps 1 in 5, it opens too wide and there is a scroll bar at the foot of the screen. The laptop screen shows the left half of a page and I have to scroll across to see the right half.

Very annoying !

Cheers
