Nintendo DS
Need some advice on these things.
Her Indoors looks after a Handicapped Child and she went to visit her yesterday as she is currently in Hospital. The child had a Nintendo DS and the wifey had a go on it ... something like Brain Testing or some such thing? She thought it was great!
Now, the last handheld game thingy I bought was a Sega GameGear (and I still have it!) .... so, am way out of touch these days.
Anyway, the long and short of it is that it is our Anniversary soon (within a week!) and I'm thinking that she may appreciate one of these DS things.
A few weeks ago I posted where they were cheap, for the use of members - but I had no great interest in buying one then.
Any advice on which to buy? Is the LITE better or just smaller or worse? Where is the best place to buy? Don't buy? Do buy? What to look for?
Thanks

Either get them off ebay, amazon etc. Expect to pay around £65 + for a second hand one, £100 for a new one.
DS Lite is still the best. If you buy new they may thrown in Big Brain Academy, Brain Training, sight training and the Professor Leyton Curious for a puzzle game

the latest one is the dsi which has a better (bigger) display for your ageing wife pete and is more powerful than the ds lite whilst still being slimmer I got one a few weeks back and its a very nice piece of kit I got mine from argos, was about £149 with a game included (may have been slightly cheaper)

I have a DS light and its great. They have pink ones too!!!! As above the DSi is the latest one, has a camera and some wifi extras or something.
If you can find one get a DSi, if not the DS is a great gadget, thats coming from a man that has a NES as his main console!

They say the DSi isn't worth the extra .... 0.3 Mega Camera is all but useless and the Battery life is much reduced?
The DS can play the GBA Games, but the DSi cannot .... are secondhand GBA Games cheap?

I feel your pain.
Its that kind of thing, If you have the right games you can "back up" about 100 on a card. It makes it safer and easier to take all your games out with you and not worry about losing them

Anything that keeps her awat from the constant demands on my sexual prowess is a bonus - I'm getting on a bit, you know!!

The R4 Card ... a quick Google says it went out of production last year ... so any available will be Chinese clones of dubious quality - right or wrong?
And where would one see what games could be put on the card and safely carried around with the Unit, without risking the originals which are left safe at home?

Ebay normally has loads, If not I know a guy that can "back up" about 100 games on a card. Not sure what it costs for the back up service, I can find out.

I've just bought my daughter (7) a DSlite (well, part bought as she saved up half from her pocket money). If anyone can point me in the right direction to an R4 card, or a reliable seller of games for good money I'd appreciate it

Have a go at these two places, a couple of the links above will allow you to DL free "back up" copies of games onto your DS R4 card.

backward compatabile with the other ds range (ds and ds lite etc)
It is a cartridge based system, similar to a SD memory card, the R4 or R4I fits in the normal slot on the ds(lite) or DS I and a micro sd card fits into this. You just put the backup games onto the micro sd card, put it into the r4(i) card turn on and just select the r4 option that appears on screen then it will give you a choice of games or media etc, choose games and all your backup games are listed. Also has a cheat mode thing built in but I havent bothered using that.

Just wanted to say, Timwinner,
Ordered a R4 card yesterday. Arrived today. All working great. Just in time for holiday next week so we don't have to take the original games with us now.
