Your view on future of games machines.
What's your view on the future of gaming machines ?.I had a think about it and came to the conclusion, you could probably have choices like that of hi-fi equipment. You now can buy an all in one system (360, PS3 etc) that we know, so why not have a separate stand alone type system, iif people want higher quality for games just keep it simple & with high quality components. That would be a real gaming machine wouldn't it.Most of the other machines i know of do other things.Would this be a good way to go for the game industry or would it be crippled over night ?.Or just stick with gaming pc's ?.You see many new companies could begin making equipment like this and the base price for a separate machine i reckon wouldn't cost more than a gaming pc, and would be fitted with much higher quality components, would you agree ?.This has been happening in the hi-fi world since the 1970's maybe.Obviously i'm not trying to take the fun out off the world of gaming, not even slightly.Still keep the online gaming side to it yeah. What are your thoughts.

Also because it's separate it can be plugged into a newly designed surround sound amp & play through the speakers & a tv, projector or pc screen. The viewing side would need to be modified extensively i guess to match the other components too.

Convergence is where it's at.
You'll buy a universal chassis and then add components of the quality you want. A bit like a current PC but with all your entertainment parts.
Game device would be one of those components, not something you would necessarily tune individually, just buy a higher spec unit.
Base offers DVB-T, Am/FM, Stereo, Web, basic multimedia player, optical disk.
You add multi channel audio, DVB-S, game, HD player, storage capacity etc etc.

Why don't they set a high standard for computers in the same way as hi-fi ( valve amps for example ).Valves were used once for a computer during ww 2, but colossus obviously is too big.

3DO tried to do this and failed as there isn't much money in the hardware (remember Sony and Microsoft lose money (or at least used to) per console), so the only way to make money is to have a restricted agreement where you make a percentage of the software.
In addition if you have fragmented hardware specifications it is a nightmare to write for (PC anyone?) where you have to make sure your game works with this sound card, this graphics card etc..

You'll just pay to play the games you want via the internet and all the processing will be done via a home of super computers while you have a simple box\media centre in your living room channelling it to your tv.
