Default My Mac is annoying me by trying to be helpful...

...as anytime I plug in any form of USB based storage it opens up iPhoto. I wish it would not as I am usually moving files or creating email attachments. Is there anyway I can stop this - I have looked an not managed to see the ability to turn off this helpful action!

Go into your system preferences under CD/DVD and make sure the Picture CD is set to nothing. Then go into iphoto prefs and under General you will see the section at the bottom that says
When connecting camera opne up iphoto. Change that to 'no application'

Basically iphoto thinks that some of your usb storage has images or is classing it as a camera

The first section I mentioned is under System preferences ( I take it you are running OS 10.4 etc) under CD/DVD

Choose ignore

The second section is under iPhoto Preferences

Choose No application

Happens when I plug in my iphone all the time

Hi Mr Swiss,

thank you for providing the Dummies Guide to iPhoto - my problem is that iPhoto does not have the Connecting Camera Opens option (I should have been clearer in my earlier post - sorry).

Humph - still opening iPhoto anytime a USB device is waved near my Mac

Do you happen to have a folder named DCIM or Images on the USB device, if so, then try renaming the folder(s) to something else and see if that helps.

What version of iPhoto are you running?
