Default Are those windows registry fixers any good??

Just a quick question....

I've had a couple of blue screen crashes today on my usually pretty stable HP pavillion laptop running windows Vista, running firefox and AOL

Running a couple of other programs has thrown up a little windows box saying that there was a problem writing to the registry and I should use REGEIT.......I press continue and all seems Ok.

Started yesterday when I removed Norton Antivirus LOL

Are these free registry cleaner programs any good ??

Cheers

lol norton apps have alot to answer for eh.

The only one that has an excellent rep and actually does the job properly is CCleaner. Give it a whirl.

CCleaner - Home

thanks for that

I've not had a blue screen crash since I got rid of the free NOD 32 trial version I installed to replace Norton .............maybe it was NOD 32 ??

Avast as the antivirus
CCleaner for the registry
Spybot for the rest

With those 3 not much will get past

You can get nod direct from Eset at reasonable price

ESET - Antivirus Software with Spyware and Malware Protection

Give the latest trail a go before committing.

I used to pay for Registry Mechanic from PC Tools which certainly seemed to do the job, however I now use CCleaner instead, it seems to be as effective and it's free.
