Iphone and iTunes issues
When it works it's fine but bloody hell when it starts not working it really does do it in style
All I did was change the folder I want my pics to sync from and it has gone t!ts up. I left it syncing last night, after 3 hours it was still just sitting there saying sync in progress, no errors or time outs. This morning it has decided to not include my music and wipe that from the iphone and still is sitting there saying syncing and doing bu66er all.
iTunes really is the worst piece of software I have ever had the misfortune to thave to use.
The iphone has been turned off and back on, plugged it into different usb port etc and still it wont sync, just sits there for hours.

That happened to mine and after quite a long while of looking on the internet, I just restored the phone and everything was fine.
iTunes is extremely badly written on the PC, it takes too much resource and is generally slow.

I completely agree that for Windows based operating systems, iTunes is a pile of junk. You really do have to wonder if Apple does this on purpose, as a sly way to persuade people to by a Mac, though I think it's stupid logic in that case, as if it's crap on PC, whose to say it's not crap on Mac, so why get a Mac
To be honest, I think that part of the problem is that you have a very, very wide range of machine types in the windows world, and the problems could well be due to conflicts because of these things. We all know that some very odd problems can turn out to be down to some driver incompatibility somewhere, even if that driver isn't specifically being used by/for the application that has the problem.

Mmmm ... I would probably hard reset it (hold turn off and home button for 10 seconds) and then force a manual restore having downloaded the firmware again.
I still like the iPhone even though it is temperamental sometimes!

If everything is gone (including contacts / text messages etc..) check where it was backing up the data, as perhaps that was on the network as well?
They arn't that bad! Failing that, you can jailbreak it and copy all the data to it manually.

In your music directory there should be 'itunes' sub-directory this contains all the applications.
If you just add the music directory and search for music it should also find the applications.

Steve cheers for the replies. I turned the drive back on and it has found the apps. Having done some googling it turns out just moving the folder with everything in and pointing iTunes to it isn't enough as iTunes is still looking in the original location for the library database.
I'm now reading through articles that explain how to get iTunes to look in a different location for the database.

Got it all sorted this morning. The iTunes library was still looking on the network share for the apps and some of the music. I'd already made a copy of the library to the local drive so copied all apps and music into the library from the local drive with the network drive off. Getting rid of the dead duplicate apps was easy but now left with a shed load of duplicate songs which will take forever to manually delete but can't find a Windows based app to automatically search and delete duplicates
