I am after getting hold of some of the old arcade games that i believe are available on mame, i don`t know much about Mame so any help is appreciated.

So far i have downloaded this Mame release, is this the right thing to have ?

So, you download the MAME 0.129, then what?

Use Google you lazy git!

If you have never used Mame before download mame32 which has a Windows Frontend. Get your ROMS and put them in the rom directory and off you go. Plenty of options in Mame32 to tinker with to customise.

Ok, now i remember why i didnt see this through last time lol.

Ive got this version of MAME >>> The Emulator Zone - MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator)

MAME (regular) 0.128

Ive extracted it, it creates a folder called "src" How do i run it?

i downloaded 1 from that site but it wouldnt let me open it, so i went back and got another and it loaded and everything ok but it wouldnt load most roms!!!.

Thanks. Managed to get that one loaded, but struggling to find a game that works. I keep getting an error box that shows a load of files missing.

Am i doing something wrong?

thats what i got when i downloaded 1 from that link you put up, it said that it was missing files. but when i got mame32 it loaded all roms after i put them in the rom files no problem.

put the roms in the roms file as they are, dont extract them mate.

Ok, done that, i still have no idea how to load a ROM from the ROM folder lol

Do they make these things impossible on purpose

if so, open mame 32 up and go to options then directories, then clik insert and go to the ROM files and now clik OK. now you should see a list of all the roms you have and all there you need to do now is clik on 1 of em to play

i found it a pain in the *** to begin with LOL.

in the rom folder of mame32 drag and drop the rom as it is in to the file mate

Yeh, did that, got the zipped up file in the rom directory of the MAME32 folder. Just cant get the damn thing to find it. I did manage to insert it when it was unzipped but then couldnt find where you load it from.

Ahhh got it! I was trying to insert individual roms rather than just the whole rom folder.

Thanks for your persistence. Just one final question, how the hell do you find out what keys control the game?

any time during the game press the tab button on your keyboard, and then hit enter on inpute general and go to player 1 contrls and hit enter again, then just choose which ever with ENter and press the key you want that 1 to be.
