Default Iphone iTunes again

Right last year I got myself PAYG iPhone activated it with iTunes but didn`t sign up then unlocked it, the version of iTunes I had let me upload music to it etc.
I have had to buy a new computer now and will have to download iTunes again but I understand it will be a newer version, would I still be able to connect my iPhone and manage my music with it without problems, or will I have to try and get the older version of iTunes.

This is the 2G one? Make sure you unlock the latest firmware as well and it works fine.

(tutorial for unlocking here: iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your 2.x.x 2G iPhone Using QuickPwn (Windows))

Yes this is a 2g one which was supposed to be activated to a contract through iTunes. I was aware then though that if any atempt to upgrade the sofware would permanently lock the the phone, at the moment it is on 1.1.4.
What advantages are there if I do upgrade with pwnage to 2.2

no I don't think that's true about locking the phone, install 2.2 then follow that guide about jailbreaking it and it will take five mins

Yes, they can be unbricked in most if not all cases.

Plug in the usb cable and have iTunes open.

Hold down the home and power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the power button but keep holding the home button. Keep the home button held down until iTunes recognises the iPhone.

Here's a nice guide iClarified - iPhone - How to Put an iPhone Into DFU Mode

That should get things up and running again.

Ok I have managed to get it working again but, it did ask me again to give my contact details and credit card number to O2 I didn`t. The phone is now on v2.2 but appears to be locked to O2, I have tried unlocking it again with pwnage but when I get to this page Quickpwn ready to pwn and saying waiting for iphone to connect in recovery mode, nothing happens or have It got to be left for a looong time the rest goes quite quickly. Also will I get all the summerboards and free apps I had with an unlocked 1.1.4 iphone

No as i`ve said it waits a long time where it says wait for iphone to connect in recovery mode, I`m downloading the files again and will retry.

Got it updated with the pwnage but the phone is still locked to O2 and I know I did click the unlock icon, can it be unlocked now in any way.

Yes quickpwn is what I used its just all packed up in pwnage, I followed all the instructions but as I say the phone part of it is useless now it`s just like an itouch (at least its working though) i`ts just that I really would like it unlocked as well.

You don't need to download any more firmware versions. Just follow the guide on iClarifiied.com if it didn't work the first time, follow the guide again.

At step Eight you choose to Unlock the phone.
Putting the phone into DFU mode can be tricky.

Got it working on 2.1, but even when I did this via quickpwn I still had the message different sim detected and to connect to itunes.
Anyways I had to download a few more programs Post 14 here
"different sim detected" error after Quickpwn to 2.1 and unlock at 2.0.2
gives a few links for the software and instructions, anyway just to say I don`t think i`ll be upgrading again in a hurry.
