There are about 7 main machines around the world (5 in the US I think) that assist with all of the internet address routing.

Anyone know what they're called or where I can find documentation on them?

do you mean the 7 root DNS servers?

they are held in the states, and are the root servers that all other servers get their DNS listings from.

I think they are run by internic

you could try, but i doubt that you would survive the backlash
and I doubt that you would have access to enough PC's to dos a backbone resource!

Dunno how up-to-date it is, but AltaVista comes up (amongst half a million other sites) with:

...which seems to show what you want!!
