Boot from USB stick
Hello
Is there an easy way? I have wandered around the internet and read about copying boot sectors from floppy disk formats or a bizarre HP utility that appears not to be around, but it MUST be easier than that?
Thanks
Steve

Well most boards do support boot from usb, just install a fresh copy of windows onto your hd then use something like ghost to copy it onto the pen drive id imagine.
If you have esata even better, pen drives are on the way that come close to ssd drive speeds, once they hit 64gb id be very tempted to do this.

As you say you will need the boot sector but imagine ghost can copy this over anyway if ordered to.
You could fit a floppy drive then right click format and select create ms boot disk option, once that is done copy files onto a usb pen drive along with your windows files.

My understanding of the problem is that the USB drivers are loaded and unloaded as Windows boots, and having the driver for the device you're booting from unloaded isn't going to be overly handy. I could be wrong on this though.

I recently had to reinstall an Eee PC without a USB DVD drive. I tried for 3 days to get it to boot off a USB stick to install Windows XP on it and gave up !! As Jack said there is an option in the Ubuntu administration menu to create an Ubuntu boot USB drive, so I did that and installed Ubuntu EEE and all is now good....
