Xbox360 live newbie. Tips on setting up would be appreciated
Hi All,
I got an Xbox 360 Elite a while back and have just invested in one of Microsoft's hideously expensive wireless adapter thingies. I have a Draytek Vigor 2800 router and a vista laptop. The router is correctly configured with my IP settings, the network is secure, so I'm assuming the Xbox will realise this and ask for the code for access to the network? I'm told I have a 3 month trial subscription to Xbox live, so should be ok there. I will shortly be trying to get the damn thing working. Any tips/advice guides for a technical luddite?
Also, any advice on the best way to dip your toes into the service without getting your *** handed to you by a 8 year old yank on Halo!
Ta in advance.

The setup is simple aslong as you know your network pass key, just follow the instructions.
The first thing it will do is update your menu screen so you wont know where anything is again
You can even set your xbox up to your vista laptop to play movies and music etc.
Clever stuff
Oh and prepared to have your *** handed to you by 8 year olds

Lol as predicted, I've fallen at the first hurdle.
The wireless adapter appears to have powered up ok, but the xbox can't see the router. I'm not hiding my SSID.
What do I do now?

Back to basics...
enter the router setup screen...
turn off. any form of security (wep wspk etc.)
turn off the lappy, (unless the lappy is the main pc)
run the autosetup on the xbox and see what it finds...
if it finds the xbox, then all you need to do is apply your security and job done...
it can be done, but can be bloody frustrating...

Mart.
Bingo, disabled security and it's jumped into action, BUT tried to reinstate security and put in my network key and I can't. If I go to system and click on the group of settings that includes security, it only offers me the option to create an ad hoc network or specify an unlisted network.
I just need to edit this and I'm sorted.
Any suggestions?

If i recall my xbox got stuck at wsk or equiv security, but at wep it was ok.
no doubt all the doom mongers will be on here to poo poo the level of security
you need to change the level of security at the router, then set the security level & passkey on the xbox ..
mart
btw at least you know it works..
the other thing you need to look at is your firewall, , that may be blocking access as well

Ta, Mart!
Awwwwww sh*t! It says it will accept wpa2, but the option was blanked out if I recall. I think the firewall is ok, it's integrated into the modem, I switched off windows vista's one to avoid conflicts. I only switched off network encryption and it jumped into life ok.
The problem is that I now have an account with settings I can't access to fiddle with the network security settings.

The only way to get access to this would seem to be to specify an unlisted account and then manually enter the SSID and then passcode for network access. I've tried that and it still doesn't find the network and the WPA2 option on security is blanked out for some reason.
Gotta love Microsoft at times!

Is it possible for you to connect it wired first? I did that (set up mine and 4 friends) to join xbox live etc. Then i went wireless and each time it connected after i entered the pass key.
